The 5 week summer intensive will be held in New York City in the summer of 2014.\u00a0 So if Amelia gets in we’ll need to figure out some housing for her in Manhattan.\u00a0 Amelia has to be in the Junior Division.<\/p>\n

Junior Division Summer Intensive Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

June 30, 2014 to August 1, 2014<\/p>\n

“The Junior Division Summer Intensive is a 5-week training program for students ages 11-15 with a minimum of three consecutive years of ballet training. The program provides an opportunity for intermediate and advanced dance students to immerse themselves in an intensive training session. Students take daily ballet classes supplemented by additional modern and jazz classes.\u00a0 Advanced girls may also take pointe; advanced boys may take boys’ ballet.\u00a0 Students are provided the opportunity to learn repertory in special workshops, which culminate in the Summer Sizzler performances. All students are evaluated for placement by the Junior Division Directors.\u00a0 During the first week of classes, the program Directors and instructors monitor and evaluate classes to determine that each student is placed in the correct level for his or her ability. Level A – Advanced Beginner 13 classes per week.\u00a0 Daily ballet class, modern and jazz classes, and a Repertory Workshop. Level B, C & D – Intermediate to Advanced 15 classes per week.\u00a0 Daily ballet class, modern and jazz classes, pointe or boys’ ballet classes and a Repertory Workshop. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, and The Ailey School moved to their permanent home at the Joan Weill Center for Dance, located at : 405 West 55th Street (at 9th Avenue) in Manhattan.” ~from the Ailey School website<\/p>\n

“Dear Amelia,<\/p>\n

Thank you for auditioning for The Ailey\u00ae School.\u00a0 I am happy to inform you of your acceptance into the 2014 Junior Division Summer Intensive Program to be held: June 30 – August 1, 2014. At this time, your placement is Group B based on your performance at the audition. During the first few days of classes, our teachers will assess student levels and inform us of any students whose levels must be corrected.\u00a0 Should there be any adjustment in levels, you and your parents will be notified of any tuition adjustments and schedule changes. Please see the tentative class schedule attached. In addition, our Junior Division students will be performing in repertory workshop pieces that will culminate in a showcase highlighting their talent. These exciting performances are scheduled during the last few days of the summer course in The Ailey CitiGroup Theater. (Performance date & times TBA). Please refer to the attached materials about our Summer Program.<\/p>\n

Please note the required deadlines for fees listed on the Registration Form. In order to secure your spot, you must submit your non-refundable $300 deposit within 2 weeks of receiving this letter. After this time, availability and space in the program is not guaranteed. The Health Form, which must be signed by a doctor and include a copy of the student\u2019s health insurance card, is not due until May 9, 2014. Also attached is a housing list. The Ailey School requires all out-of-town students under 16 years of age to have a chaperone. Please take note that these residences fill up very quickly.\u00a0 We do not arrange housing for our students, but we are happy to connect you with other students who require chaperones or express interest in finding roommates to share the cost of housing. Again, we congratulate you on your acceptance to the Ailey School Junior Division 2014 Summer Intensive Program.<\/p>\n
