“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1”: A Movie Review

The Story

This is Harry’s last year at Hogwarts and Prof. Dumbledore has passed away.  In Dumbledore’s will, the professor sends Harry off on a mission to destroy all the Horcruxes, pieces of Voldemort’s soul. Snape becomes  head master of Hogwarts when Dumbledore dies.  Snape is also a Death Eater, a follower of Lord Voldemort.  Voldemort believes  Muggles (non-magic folk), half-bloods and other non-Wizards should all be killed, so the “pure bloods” should dominate the world.

PLOT SPOILER: By the end of the movie, Harry has destroyed the second Horcrux (the first one was destroyed in the “Chamber of Secrets”).

Like

I liked how they made the movie more interesting than the book.  I also liked how they portrayed the Death Eaters and the fact that Dudley, Harry’s mean cousin, gets a whole lot nicer.

Dislike

Hermione, Ron and Harry aren’t cute little kids anymore and they’re kissing… eewww! 🙁

I didn’t like that Dumbledore was replaced by Snape as headmaster of Hogwarts.  I also didn’t like how just being near a Horcrux can effect people and make them evil.  Some of the special effects were a little bit cheesy, for example, when one of the old ladies turns into a giant snake, it was very cheesy.  Also part of the story, the part about the Elder Wand and the Horcruxes, remind me too much of “The Lord of the Rings”.
