Project 1: Growth Rate of Sunflowers

Title: Growth Rate of Sunflowers

Introduction:

This is a experiment about how fast sunflowers grow.

Sunflower

Question:

How fast do sunflowers grow?

Hypothesis:

I think that in five weeks the subflowers will have full flower.

Experiment:

I planted a crop of sunflowers. Each day I kept track of the sunflowers. I measured with a ruler how tall they grow. I chose three out of a crop of sunflowers. I don’t know exactly how many plants there where in a crop.

Equipment Used:

  • sunflower seeds
  • planters
  • potting mix
  • tape measure
  • ruler
  • lots of water and sunshine

Results:

HEIGHT (cm)

8/5/2006 145.0 159.0 165.0
8/11/2006 150.0 183.0 281.0 Flowers blooming…

Average = 204.7 cm of all plants

Growth Rate = 18.6 cm per week (7.3 inches per week)

What I Learned (Conclusion):

I learned that sunflowers can bloom in two months. And also at a rate of 7.3 inches per week. Other factors affect the growth rate of sunflower.
