New Year’s Day 2012

After a day of skiing at North Star, we stopped at the Kings Beach State Park and enjoyed a peaceful, beautiful and sunny day on the shore of Lake Tahoe.
Sailing on San Francisco Bay in a 50′ sailboat in perfect weather (with a small side distraction of small white dogs)!

It almost became a dog day afternoon!
This is a Girls Scouts residence sailing camp in the High Sierras.
Residence Camp Description
“Grades 6-9
With the wind in your hair and the sun on your face, spend your days on Kidd Lake. Balance the board, pull up a sail, navigate and experience the rush of windsurfing. Have a blast building crazy rafts and get a chance to paddle around Deer Lake. For some extra excitement, you’ll take a tour of Lake Tahoe aboard the 50-foot sailing yacht Tahoe Cruise.”

Time to go home!
We saw the Oakland Athletics play against Chicago White Sox at the Oakland Coliseum. We got seats in the Club Luxury Suite 22 – with dad’s company, awesome! The game started at 1:10 PM. Never been to a real baseball game before. The A’s triumphed over the White Sox, 10 – 2. Had to dash away to get to Gun-Bun on time.

“Take me out to the ballgame,
Take me out to the park.
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks,
I don’t care if we never come back…”

They voted “The Magpie”, by Monet, as their favorite and wondered what all the fuss was about with “Whistler’s Mother”, but they kept returning again and again to their favorites and eventually emerged from the exhibit with a deeper appreciation for the ” Impressionists”.

The last time “Whistler’s Mother” was in San Francisco was in 1933. There’s a good chance they’ll never see it again, unless they visit in Paris at the Musée d’Orsay…
Arrived in camp around 4:00 PM (Fallen Leaf Camp).

Set-up camp. Prepared Santa Maria style BBQ tri-tip, beans and garlic bread with Joe, Albert, Dennis, Terry, Charlotte and us by 7:00. AMS had brought along the tapioca pudding she’d made and everyone enjoyed the treat. Later we were all annoyed by a very loud (and large) party causing a ruckus that kept us all up.
