Last Day Fair 2009, Good-bye Third Grade!

June 11, 2009

Suddenly here it is… last day of school.  Third grade was hard but fun.  I learned about fractions and math and writing.  I’m excited about getting my hair colored blue, green and yellow at the Last Day Fair.

A happy camper...

Visiting With John Babcock, Artist/Papermaker/Mentor

June 7, 2009

My dad and I visited John Babcock at his studio in the Santa Cruz mountains.  He hasn’t seen me since I was a two-month old baby.  I learned a lot of new things about paper making like the kozo pulp and how to use a bamboo mesh screen.  Also I learned about special machine that paper-makers use to make pulp called a Hollander beater.  They’re kind of like bath-tub shaped blenders.

I showed John samples of paper I’d made – he thought I’d done a great job and hoped I’d take one of his workshops in paper-making.

San Francisco Ballet School 2009 – 2010

AMS has been invited to attend formal ballet studies at SFBS for the 2009-2010 school year.  She has been placed in the “Level 2 Girls – Technique” class.  She’s therefore eligible to audition for the professional production of San Francisco Ballet’s “The Nutcracker”.

START: August 31, 2009
END: June 4, 2010

Ballet 2A Girls – Technique:  Mon, Wed, Fri     5:45-7:00 pm
Ballet 2B Girls – Technique:  Tue, Thu     5:45-7:00 pm &  Sat 10:00-11:15 am

After auditioning two times before, AMS had a third audition on May 2.  The following week, SFBS called and asked her to come back to join a Level 3 class for further evaluation.  The class was clearly over her head but she did the best she could.

She received an invitation today (May 15) to attend the 2009-2010 school year in Level 2.  We don’t know yet whether she’ll be in 2A or 2B.

CONGRATULATIONS!
